What is StoGuard™?
StoGuard is a system of products, that combined, is a spray-on waterproofing, air barrier that is vapor permeable. It is applied directly to sheathing, joints, and rough openings, and is used in place of building wrap underneath brick, wood, vinyl, cement siding, Portland cement stucco and EIFS.
Superior Waterproofing
Waterproofing / moisture barriers keep damaging water and moisture from penetrating the sheathing, protecting moisture sensitive components such as wood and gypsum based sheathings in the event of a breach in the outer wall covering.
StoGuard is applied directly to the sheathing, providing a structural layer of protection against moisture intrusion. Unlike conventional sheet type house wraps that come apart at the seams and leak at the staple holes, the StoGuard system is seamless and tearproof.
Superior Air Barrier for Energy Efficiency
Air barriers are used to minimize air infiltration and exfiltration (leaks) through the wall construction. The use of an effective air barrier can reduce the risk of moisture condensation in the wall assembly, increase the thermal efficiency of the wall, provide energy cost savings, and increase occupant comfort. A study of commercial buildings by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) confirmed that air barriers promote energy savings ranging from 30-40% for heating climates, and 10-15% for cooling climates.
StoGuard is a continuous, structural and durable air barrier. It outperforms conventional sheetwraps and housewraps because it does not have seams or use penetrating fasteners that can cause air leaks.
Breathable
StoGuard allows for water vapor diffusion while limiting air infiltration, thus it is a 'breathable" air barrier. In climates with seasonal temperature fluctuations, a water vapor permeable assembly is preferred for year round performance and air quality. Easier and Faster to Install
The StoGuard assembly is easier to install than sheet wraps and can be installed by paint, waterproofing or EIFS / Stucco contractors without special training. A recent time study found that StoGuard could be installed up to 3 times faster than sheet wraps.
